Costumegasm Coping Crafting

I wanted to transform my sadness and madness into joy and playfulness. Letting myself explore this was very therapeutic for me and the feelings of deep uncertainty have felt very uprooting so getting back into my body and working with my hands has given me some grounding.

As I reach the month mark of my quarantine things have shifted in the Costumegasm studio to adapt to the needs of our new world . My skills as a seamstress have suddenly become in high demand and considered highly essential while facing a crisis in the shortage of masks . Suddenly my pile of quilters cotton became my quarantine supply to support people the best way I knew how.  Although like many others I had some hard truths to deal with and process with all my jobs canceled and my fiancee at home turned ill I moved into my studio and used my art crafting skills to help me cope by creating a plaque doctor mask costume for a social distanced I Phone photoshoot at my local park. I was very inspired and wanted to transform my sadness and madness into joy and playfulness. Letting myself explore this was very therapeutic for me and the feelings of deep uncertainty have felt very uprooting so getting back into my body and working with my hands has given me some grounding. Mediation live feeds and zoom yoga classes have also been a great joy! There has been much darkness and death all around, I have lost a friend and cannot drown out those darn siren sounds, but its how you let it sink you to the ground. Rest when your body craves it and cry freely for that too is needed to be released and can also be expressed through many art forms. Planting seedlings in hope to regrow my garden in the backyard gives me a great sense of hope for a greener future. Feeding the parts of you that you want to see grow in your soul is very important during this time. Seeing this time as a gift rather than a curse will create more daily blessings and fuel inspiration. Let yourself play and create away ….. a way!
